The Legacy Initiative is an ongoing philanthropic endeavor in which the League, the local Club, and League partners support community organizations in the host city of an NHL event. “We don’t want to just visit communities. we want to help them grow,” said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman. Founder Lytle Thomas described the gesture as an answer to a prayer. “I was doing so great until the children walked in. When the children walked in the building a while ago, I started crying,” Thomas told News 2 of the seeing the renovations. “It’s just such a blessing because so many children in this city are hurting and I am so thankful to the Predators and the NHL. You don’t know how important you are. you don’t know how much good you are doing,” Thomas added. In total, eight rooms were transformed including a fully furnished nursery, contributed by the wives and girlfriends of the Nashville Predators. “We wanted to create a happy place for these children to come and be enriched and learn and be inspired every day when they come through these doors,” said Kristen Laviolette, wife of Predators head coach Peter Laviolette. “And we hope that will lead them to becoming better people in the community. Two classrooms were outfitted with new furniture, smartboards, and storage areas. And the laundry room was fitted with new washers and dryers, among other upgrades. Source: wkrn.com
Try these 10 tips to stay organized while house-hunting - Fairfield Daily Republic
In the hunt for the perfect house, it’s easy to get swept away by a home’s most charming details and play down the important stuff you’ll be kicking yourself for later. And if you are touring multiple open houses each weekend, keeping everything straight can get complicated. Set your priorities and streamline the house-hunting process early on, and you can breathe easier knowing you have a handle on things. It’s probably the most important purchase you will ever make, so take a few deep breaths and make a plan before diving in. You’ll be glad you did. These 10 tips can help you stay organized and focused on the important things during your house hunt. Set your priorities. Before taking a look at any houses, sit down and write out everything you want in a home, with input from all members of the household. Then choose your top five, or even top three, must-haves. Share these with your Realtor to help them better find you the right matches to fit you and your family’s needs. Once you start looking, all sorts of charming features are bound to sway you. keeping your priorities list close at hand can help you stay on track. Make a comparison chart. After you have seen a dozen or more houses, it becomes difficult to keep track of the features in each one. Make things a little easier by creating your own comparison chart or checklist to bring along to each home, and make notes on it during or immediately after each tour. Beyond the basics, consider including notes on landscaping, the condition of the roof and exterior, natural light in each room, storage space and cost per square foot. Consider this chart a personal tool – something you can look back on to help guide your decision-making. This is not a substitute for a good home inspection. We highly recommend every homebuyer hire and have a professional whole-house inspection, pest, roof and if applicable, chimney after your offer is accepted. Walk through once and let yourself soak it all in. When you tour a home for the first time, the excitement can make it difficult to focus on. . . well, anything at all. So we say, just go with it. Have fun, wander around and mentally note your first impressions of the space. Most of the time your first impression is the best. Source: www.dailyrepublic.com
Smart Moves: Sensible tips for a quick sale - NewsOK.com
Despite its prediction of "meager" economic growth in 2016, the National Association of Realtors is forecasting a modest increase in home sales for the year, along with slightly rising prices. "This year the housing market may only squeak out 1 to 3 percent growth in sales," said Lawrence Yun, the Realtors' chief economist. What does this forecast mean for you if you plan to sell your place this year. That depends on variables specific to your locale, said Eric Tyson, a personal finance expert and co-author of "House Selling for Dummies. "You've got to get intelligence on the ground specific to your neighborhood," Tyson said. He recommends you gather pricing opinions from at least three real estate agents who have a mastery of your market. Also visit other properties for sale in your same community to compare pricing and features, Tyson said. Ronald Phipps, a real estate broker who's been in the business since 1980, underscores the importance of cleaning, de-cluttering and repainting to make the most of your sale. Even so, Phipps, a former president of the National Association of Realtors, warns against excessive spending on presale upgrades. "When picking home improvements, you want to be pragmatic and practical," he said. What commonly happens is that owners who try to recoup the cost of excessive presale improvements find the price they're demanding too high. Because of that, their property will likely languish unsold for a lengthy period until they take a price cut. • Request a checklist of suggested improvements from your listing agent. "Before you sell, the key is to distinguish between changes that give you a big bang for your buck and those that simply represent money burned," Tyson said. To come up with a focused plan for presale improvements, he urges home sellers to ask their agent for a written checklist. Tyson also suggests that budget-conscious home sellers consider selecting an agent trained in the art of "staging" a home — arranging furniture and decor to show the home in its best possible light. • Let go of any plans for a presale addition. "For most sellers, it's not cost-effective to knock out walls to build an addition," Tyson said. He said those who attempt a presale addition rarely recoup more than 50. Source: newsok.com
